ALFAMA | Neighborhoods

Image

The first Lisbon neighborhood we present is Alfama, the oldest one is Lisbon, located near the Castle. Its name comes from the Arab al-hamma (Ű§Ù„ŰÙ…Ù‘Ű©), which means fountains or baths. From the beginning existed here natural water springs which were piped to fountains, and that gave Alfama its name.

You’ll be able to have magnificent views over Alfama, from spots like Portas do Sol and Santa Luzia.

Alfama is one of Lisbon’s most visited areas, and is most known for its typical Portuguese restaurants, and Fado Houses. Also, in June Lisbon celebrates the “Santos Populares“, one week celebrating Santo AntĂłnio (Lisbon’s Saint), with lots of eating, drinking, singing and dancing in the streets, and Alfama is one of the Top Spots of this fests.
