5 Tips for a Perfect Winter in Lisbon

So, the warm days are gone and you have to grab a jacket every time you go outside. But we have a little secret to share with you – Lisbon is still great in the winter and we’re going to show you why!!

1 – Shopping

Lisbon is one of the western Europe’s most inexpensive capitals and adding to it, the sales hit the stores in early January! Go to Chiado or Bairro Alto and you can find vintage clothes and glassware, exotic soaps or some leather gloves. 2- Weather

We know it’s winter, so you’ll expect freezing cold an lots of rain right? Wrong! During winter Lisbon maintains mild temperatures and the sun is no stranger either. But if you are into skiing you’ll have some option too. You have to take the train or the car to get there, but we have a few great ski spots, like Serra da Estrela.

3 – Sweeties

As you probably know, we have an undeniable sweet tooth and you have so many pastries that you have to try very hard to taste them all. In the winter we stretch the scope of sweets even further and you don’t want to miss that. We got some examples for you – the famous Pastéis de Nata (custard tart) and tarte de Maçã (little apple tart).

4 – Fado

In the winter you will rather stay in a cosy warm place right? So you have to go to listen to the nostalgic folk laments of Fado.

MUSEU DO FADO | Museums

As we’ve said before, Fado is one of the most  important trademarks of Lisbon and Portugal. To better understand its beauty you must go to the Fado Museum (between Terreiro do Paço and Santa Apolónia).

The museum doors opened to the public in 1998, showing Fado’s deep roots in the tradition and cultural history of the country, with related items (Portuguese Guitars mainly) and a great story telling about the all the famous Singers.

 

There you’ll find a Museum School, documentation center, auditorium, a permanent and temporary exhibition circuit.

Save at least 2 hours of your day to go there.

OPEN: Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 AM to 6 PM (last admission: 5.30 PM).

Closed on 1st of January, 1st of May and December 25th.
